Cuttack, August 25 : To commemorate the birth anniversary of B.P. Mandal, social reformer and Former Bihar chief minister, best known for the Mandal commission report, the OBC Manch, Cuttack paid their tributes at a programme at Link Road here on Friday. The programme was attended by OBC Manch Cuttack District President – Samarjeet Behera, All India Yadav Mahasabha National Youth President – Er. Pradeep Behera, Social worker & Political activist – Nandlal Singh, Youth Leader – Surjit Sahoo, Prasanna Behera, Ashish Behera, Preetiranjan Kathua & other dignitaries.
Speaking at this occasion, OBC Manch Cuttack District President Samarjeet Behera said the advancement of underprivileged classes was feasible, provided the reservations for BC communities was implemented. He said that if the Govt. is not applying the OBC Reservation as suggested by Mandal Commission then a big Andolan will be organised in near future.
All India National Youth President Er. Pradeep Behera said the ideas and suggestions of Mandal, chairman of the Second Backward Classes Commission, were not properly carried out. He recalled that although Mandal had provided a report while Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was in office, it was only approved by V.P. Singh government. He said that appropriate rules, such as the cream layer cut-off, were implemented.
Social Worker & Political activist Nandlal Singh emphasised the importance of implementing reservations for BC communities in politics, education, and employment and that Mandal’s idea to offer reservations in proportion with their population was necessary. He said that if the same is implemented in Odisha then that will be a great tribute to Late B.P.Mandal.
Youth leader – Surjit Sahoo said that the ideas of OBC Movement has to reach out to each household of OBC people as they have forgotten the sacrifice of our leaders. At last the vote of thanks was given by Social worker Prasanna Behera with a pledge that we will work on the footsteps of B.P.Mandal.
